Versions and changes made to the Methodological guide of Bilan Carbone®.

This page records the versions and changes made to the Bilan Carbone® Methodological Guide. This method evolves as progress is made in carbon accounting.
The Bilan Carbone® methodological guide is currently in its version 9 - July 2024.
Here is the history and record of changes:
January 2026: Addition of a comparison table between the Bilan Carbone® emission category nomenclature and the GHG-Protocol emission category nomenclature in section 4.5. As well as correction of a bug reported regarding the comparison table between the Bilan Carbone® emission category nomenclature and the BEGES-R and ISO 14064-1 emission category nomenclatures.
January 2026: Addition in the section 5 of the notion of top-down trajectory and its use within the framework of the Bilan Carbone®. Further development of the steps mentioned for constructing transition plans.
January 2026: Addition in the glossary of the following definitions: "Overshoot", "Carbon budget", "Carbon neutrality" and "Top-down and bottom-up trajectories"
January 2026: Correction of typographical errors
December 2025: Publication of the English version of the guide.
August 2025: Addition of clarifications on the result of an evaluation and how it is communicated, in section 7.3.
August 2025: Modification of section 7.2 in order to be limited to a concise explanation of the evaluation process, referring to the dedicated guide for more details.
August 2025: Modification of section 7.1, previously devoted to defining the evaluation team and now relating to the preparation of the evaluation by the organisation wishing to have its assessment evaluated.
June 2025: Addition of a batch of infographics in sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 as well as in subsections 1.2, 2.4, 4.5, 5.3, 6.2 and in appendix 1.
January 2025: Addition of an appendix 5 dedicated to the specificities of a Bilan Carbone® approach for associations.
January 2025: Change of the name of a subcategory "Building waste" to "Material waste" within the Waste category, in appendix 1 and in the associated infographics (figure 2.4 and 4.5).
January 2025: Addition of a maturity questionnaire (help to determine an organisation's maturity level upstream of the approach), in section 1.1.
October 2024 - January 2025: Enrichment of the FAQ section.
December 2024: Addition of a correspondence table between Bilan Carbone® and Diag Décarbon'Action in section 6.2.
October 2024: Addition of a downloadable summary of the method in PDF format.
October 2024: Addition of a correspondence table between Bilan Carbone® and CSRD in section 6.2.
