# Classification of organisation profiles

Different organisation profiles should be taken into account to adapt the messages delivered. They can be distributed by sector & activities, or at least between: &#x20;

* Profile or sector “lower emitter or decarbonising”
* Profile or sector “high emitter”
* Profile or sector “at risk”

This classification remains subjective, but it can be based on the framework proposed below.&#x20;

Being in a sector **lower-emitting** does not mean that the organisation is actually low-emitting. This classification must be analysed with regard to the organisation’s actual activity. The[identification of risks and opportunities](https://www.bilancarbone-methode.com/methode-bilan-carbone-r-en/2-scope-of-the-approach/2.5-identification-of-transition-risks-and-opportunities), and the analysis that may follow according to the organisation’s maturity, should precisely make it possible to considerably refine this classification.

For the [maturity levels](https://www.bilancarbone-methode.com/methode-bilan-carbone-r-en/3-stakeholder-engagement/3-introduction-to-stakeholder-engagement) Beginner and Intermediate, the messages are rather universal. The adaptation of the message becomes increasingly specific and ambitious as the organisation’s maturity increases.&#x20;

**A specific focus is necessary from the Advanced level, as presented below:**

<table><thead><tr><th width="274">“Lower-emitting” profile</th><th width="260">“Very high-emitting” profile</th><th>“At-risk” profile</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>For an activity <strong>lower‑emitting</strong>, the objective is to influence (Stakeholder engagement of internal staff on reducing their professional and personal footprint, Stakeholder engagement of the upstream and downstream value chain in dialogue and sharing of actions)</td><td>For an activity <strong>very‑emitting</strong> : the objective is the possible carbon savings and not the carbon result at a given moment. The organisation is expected to report on its Transition Plan and the scale of its decarbonisation, more than on its current assessment.</td><td>For an activity "<strong>at risk</strong>" one must consider the need to change the business model, to change activities. Address actions and means to do so using examples and feedback.</td></tr><tr><td>The objective must not obscure the need to decarbonise (every degree and every tonne matters) nor to question its relevance in a low-carbon world.</td><td>The objective is to focus efforts on its significant issues and categories.</td><td>The objective is to affect the organisation’s overall vision and strategy.</td></tr></tbody></table>

> ⏳\[[WIP](https://www.bilancarbone-methode.com/methode-bilan-carbone-r-en/foreword#structures-des-informations-specifiques)] A table will be made available soon to serve as a framework and help users classify themselves into one of these profiles (lower-emitting, very high-emitting or at-risk). The objective of this resource is to integrate into Stakeholder engagement a section “what transition risk for your sector”. All of these resources are currently in production.&#x20;
