Classification of organisation profiles

The different organisational profiles should be taken into account to adapt the messages delivered. They can be distributed by sector & trades, or at least between:

  • Profile or sector “lower emitter or decarbonising”

  • Profile or sector “very high emitter”

  • Profile or sector “at risk”

This classification remains subjective, but it can be based on the framework proposed below.

Being in a sector lower-emitting sector does not mean that the organisation is actually low-emitting. This classification must be analysed with regard to the organisation's actual activity. Theidentification of risks and opportunities, and the analysis that may follow depending on the organisation's maturity, should precisely allow this classification to be considerably refined.

For maturity levels Initial and Standard, the messages are rather universal. The adaptation of the message becomes increasingly specific and ambitious as the organisation's maturity increases.

A specific focus is necessary from the Advanced level, as presented below:

“lower-emitting” profile
“very-emitting” profile
“at-risk” profile

For an activity lower emitting the objective is to influence (Stakeholder engagement of internal employees on reducing their professional and personal footprint, Stakeholder engagement of the upstream and downstream value chain in dialogue and the sharing of actions)

For an activity high emitting : the objective is the possible carbon savings and not the carbon result at a given time. The organisation is expected to report on its transition plan and the scale of its decarbonisation, more than on its current assessment.

For an activity "at risk" one must consider the need to change the business model, to change activities. Address actions and means to do so using examples & lessons learned.

The objective must not obscure the need to decarbonise (every degree and every tonne matters) nor the need to question its relevance in a low-carbon world.

The objective is to focus efforts on its significant issues and emission categories.

The objective is to impact the organisation's overall vision and strategy.

⏳[WIP] A table will be made available soon to serve as a reference and help users classify themselves into one of these profiles (lower-emitting, very-emitting or at-risk). The objective of this resource is to integrate into the Stakeholder engagement a section “what transition risk for your sector”. All of these resources are in production. They will be made available between September and December 2024.

The Version 9 method is in an experimental phase until 12/31/2024. Tools and trainings will come into effect on 01/01/2025. Until then, we welcome your feedback or questions on this form. To learn more about the facilitation programme for the method release, click here.
