Classification of organisation profiles
The different organisation profiles should be taken into account to adapt the messages transmitted. They can be divided by sector & activities, or at minimum between:
Profile or sector "less emitting or decarbonising"
Profile or sector "very emitting"
Profile or sector "at risk"
This classification remains subjective, but it can rely on the framework proposed below.
Being in a sector does not mean that the organisation is actually low-emitting. This classification must be analysed in light of the organisation's actual activity. For the Beginner and Intermediate levels, messages are rather universal. The adaptation of the message becomes increasingly specific and ambitious as the organisation's maturity increases. A specific zoom is necessary from the Advanced level, as presented in the following sections and in the does not mean that the organisation is actually low-emitting. This classification must be analysed in light of the organisation's actual activity. Theidentification of risks and opportunities, and the analysis that may follow according to the organisation's maturity, shall precisely make it possible to considerably refine this classification.
For the maturity levels Beginner and Intermediate, the messages are rather universal. The adaptation of the message becomes increasingly specific and ambitious as the organisation's maturity increases.
A specific focus is necessary from the Advanced level, as presented below:
For an activity less emitting, the objective is to influence (Stakeholder engagement of internal employees on reducing their professional and personal footprint, Stakeholder engagement of the upstream and downstream value chain in dialogue and sharing of actions)
For an activity very emitting : the objective is the achievable carbon reduction and not the carbon result at a given moment. The organisation shall be assessed on its transition plan and the scale of its decarbonisation, more than on its current assessment.
For an activity "at risk" one must consider the need to change the business model, to change activities. Address the actions and means to do so using examples & lessons learned.
The objective must not obscure the need to decarbonise (every degree and every tonne counts) nor to question its relevance in a low-carbon world.
The objective is to focus efforts on its significant issues and emission categories.
The objective is to reach the organisation's overall vision and strategy.
⏳[WIP] A table will soon be made available to serve as a framework and help users classify themselves into one of these profiles (less-emitting, very-emitting or at-risk). The objective of this resource is to integrate into Stakeholder engagement a section “what transition risk for your sector”. All of these resources are currently in production.
