## Step 1 - Scoping the approach

Every organisation must start with this step, which frames the Bilan Carbone® approach and clearly defines what needs to be carried out in the subsequent stages, as the approach adapts to the organisation and its objectives.

* [1.1 - Define your maturity level](/english/1-scoping-the-approach/1.1-definir-son-niveau-de-maturite-bilan-carbone-r.md) in terms of carbon accounting: As this methodology is structured around three maturity levels for organisations carrying out their Bilan Carbone®, this sub-section helps select the appropriate level.
* [1.2 - Define the governance and coordination of the approach](/english/1-scoping-the-approach/1.2-definir-le-pilotage-de-la-demarche-bilan-carbone-r.md) : This step aims to establish the internal governance necessary for the successful completion of the approach and the achievement of the chosen maturity criteria.

## Step 2 - Scope of the approach

The organisation must define several boundaries that delimit the study. This makes it possible to prepare the accounting phase, ensuring that all direct and indirect emissions from the organisation are included.

* [2 - Introduction to scope identification](/english/2-scope-of-the-approach/2-introduction-a-lidentification-des-perimetres.md) : This introductory sub-section presents the timeline of the step, as well as the definitions, requirements, and expected governance for Step 2.
* [2.1 - Emissions accounted for in a Bilan Carbone](/english/2-scope-of-the-approach/2.1-les-emissions-comptabilisees-dans-un-bilan-carbone-r.md)® : This sub-section presents the different emission pillars of an organisation: induced emissions, avoided emissions and sequestered emissions.
* [2.2 - Identification of the organisational boundary](/english/2-scope-of-the-approach/2.2-perimetre-organisationnel.md) : This sub-section recalls that this methodological guide applies at the organisational level, and frames the organisational boundary.

## Step 3 - Stakeholder Engagement

Engagement is an ongoing process throughout the entire Bilan Carbone® approach, and must enable the transmission of certain key messages and drive action.

* [3 - Introduction to engagement](/english/3-stakeholder-engagement/3-introduction-a-la-mobilisation.md) : This introductory sub-section presents the timeline of the step, as well as the definitions, requirements, and expected governance for Step 3.
* [3.1 - Planning the engagement phases](https://github.com/ABC-TransitionBasCarbone/methode-bilan-carbone/blob/translated-en/3-mobilisation-des-parties-prenantes/3.1-programmer-les-phases-de-mobilisation) : This sub-section presents the messages that must be communicated during engagement based on maturity, stakeholders, the stages of the approach and the organisation's profile. It is divided into 5 phases:
  * [3.1.1 : at the launch and scoping of the Bilan Carbone®](/english/3-stakeholder-engagement/3.1-programmer-les-phases-de-mobilisation/3.1.1-au-lancement-et-cadrage-du-bilan-carbone-r.md)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://www.bilancarbone-methode.com/english/table-des-matieres.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
