# History and change log

This page traces the versions and changes made to the Bilan Carbone® Methodological Guide. This method evolves as progress is made in carbon accounting.

The Bilan Carbone® methodological guide is currently in its **version 9 - July 2024.**

* March 2026: Update of the PDF method summary in [section 0.3](/english/introduction-to-bilan-carbone-r/0.3-synthese-de-la-methode.md#synthese-telechargeable-de-la-methode-bilan-carbone-r) with the new Bilan Carbone® logos
* January 2026: Addition of a comparative table between the Bilan Carbone® emission category nomenclature and the GHG Protocol emission category nomenclature in [section 4.5](/english/4-accounting/4.5-profil-demission.md). Also correction of a reported bug concerning the comparative table between the Bilan Carbone® emission category nomenclature and the BEGES-R and ISO 14064-1 nomenclatures.
* January 2026: Addition in [section 5](/5-plan-de-transition/5-introduction-au-plan-de-transition.md) of the notion of top-down pathway and its use within the Bilan Carbone® framework. Further development of the steps cited for constructing transition plans.
* January 2026: Addition to the glossary of the following definitions: "[Overshoot](/english/annexes/glossaire.md#overshoot)", "[Carbon budget](/english/annexes/glossaire.md#budget-carbone)", "[Carbon neutrality](/english/annexes/glossaire.md#neutralite-carbone)" and "[Top-down and bottom-up pathways](/english/annexes/glossaire.md#trajectoire-de-transition)"
* January 2026: Correction of typographical errors
* **December 2025: Publication of the** [**English version**](broken://spaces/NAW1JTucVrxpfMp86aXV) **of the guide.**
* August 2025: Addition of clarifications on the evaluation result and how it is communicated, in [section 7.3](/english/7-evaluation-and-quality-of-the-bilan-carbone-r/7.3-resultat-de-levaluation.md).
* August 2025: Modification of [section 7.2](/english/7-evaluation-and-quality-of-the-bilan-carbone-r/7.2-le-process-devaluation.md) to limit it to a brief explanation of the evaluation process, referring to the dedicated guide for further details.
* August 2025: Modification of [section 7.1](/english/7-evaluation-and-quality-of-the-bilan-carbone-r/7.1-preparer-levaluation-de-son-bilan.md), previously devoted to defining the evaluation team and now relating to preparation for evaluation by the organisation wishing to have its assessment evaluated.
* June 2025: Addition of a set of infographics in sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 as well as in sub-sections 1.2, 2.4, 4.5, 5.3, 6.2 and in Annex 1.
* January 2025: Addition of [Annex 5](/english/annexes/annexes/annexe-5-specificites-pour-les-collectivites-et-les-associations.md) dedicated to the specificities of a Bilan Carbone® approach for associations.
* January 2025: Renaming of a sub-category "*Déchets bâtiments*" to "*Déchets matériaux*" in the Waste emission category, in [Annex 1](/english/annexes/annexes/annexe-1-grands-principes-de-comptabilisation-du-bilan-carbone-r.md#dechets-directs) and in the associated infographics (figures [2.4](/english/2-scope-of-the-approach/2.4-perimetre-operationnel.md) and [4.5](/english/4-accounting/4.5-profil-demission.md)).
* January 2025: Addition of a maturity questionnaire (guidance for determining the maturity level of an organisation prior to the approach), [in section 1.1](/english/1-scoping-the-approach/1.1-definir-son-niveau-de-maturite-bilan-carbone-r.md#determiner-le-niveau-de-maturite-de-lorganisation).
* October 2024 - January 2025: Enrichment of the [FAQ section](/english/annexes/faq.md).
* December 2024: Addition of a correspondence table between Bilan Carbone® and Diag Décarbon'Action [in section 6.2](/english/6-summary-and-reporting/6.2-compatibilite-de-la-demarche-avec-dautres-referentiels.md#compatibilite-avec-la-corporate-sustainability-reporting-directive).
