Classification of organisation profiles
The various organisation profiles must be taken into account to adapt the messages conveyed. They can be distributed by sector & profession, or at minimum between:
"Less emitting or decarbonising" profile or sector
"Very emitting" profile or sector
"At-risk" profile or sector
This classification remains subjective, but it can draw on the reference framework proposed below.
Being in a less emitting sector does not mean that the organisation is actually low-emitting. This classification must be analysed in light of the organisation's actual activity. The identification of risks and opportunities, and the analysis that can follow depending on the organisation's maturity, should precisely enable this classification to be considerably refined.
For the Initial and Standard maturity levels, messages are rather universal. The adaptation of the message becomes increasingly specific and ambitious as the organisation gains in maturity.
A specific focus is necessary from the Advanced level onwards, as presented below:
For a less emitting activity, the objective is to influence (mobilise internal employees to reduce their professional and personal footprint, mobilise the upstream and downstream value chain in dialogue and sharing of actions)
For a very emitting activity: the objective is the possible carbon gain and not the carbon result at a given moment. The organisation is expected to deliver on its transition plan and the extent of its decarbonisation, more than on its current assessment.
For an "at-risk" activity, the need to change the business model and change activities must be considered. Address actions, the means of doing so using examples & feedback from experience.
The objective must not obscure the need to decarbonise (every degree and every tonne counts) nor to question its relevance in a low-carbon world.
The objective is to focus its efforts on its significant issues and categories.
The objective is to reach the overall vision and strategy of the organisation.
⏳[WIP] A table will be made available shortly to serve as a reference framework and help users classify themselves into one of these profiles (less emitting, very emitting or at-risk). The objective of this resource is to integrate into mobilisation a section on "what transition risk for your sector". All of these resources are currently being produced.
