# 6 - Introduction to approach reporting

The completion of the Bilan Carbone® approach enables the organisation to obtain:

* Step 6.1: a [reporting](/english/6-summary-and-reporting/6.1-restitution-du-bilan-carbone-r.md) of the deliverables that constitute the Bilan Carbone® approach, whether intended for internal or external use.
* Step 6.2: [compatibility](/english/6-summary-and-reporting/6.2-compatibilite-de-la-demarche-avec-dautres-referentiels.md) of Bilan Carbone® deliverables with other approaches
* Step 6.3: a projection onto the [continuation of its transition journey](/english/6-summary-and-reporting/6.3-renouvellement-et-amelioration-continue.md), in terms of renewal and continuous improvement

## Glossary relating to Reporting

All terms relating to the reporting steps are explained in the [glossary](/english/annexes/glossaire.md). They are recalled below:

* Reporting: process of finalising the approach, including the preparation of deliverables, their presentation and their validation. Reporting is also a [stakeholder engagement](/english/3-stakeholder-engagement/3-introduction-a-la-mobilisation.md#glossaire-relatif-aux-etapes-de-mobilisation) phase.
* Documentation: process similar to reporting, intended for internal use only. It aims at continuous improvement of carbon accounting within the organisation. Documentation is useful for future handovers and renewals.
* Deliverables: all the items, documents and information obtained at each step of the approach, compiled for Reporting.
* Compatibility: here, the capacity of the Bilan Carbone® to be used to respond to other frameworks. The notion of "compatibility with" does not guarantee reciprocity.
* Framework: here refers to other carbon accounting methods, standards and regulations, or low-carbon transition approaches.

## Governance relating to Reporting

The governance of the accounting step is part of the [overall governance](/english/1-scoping-the-approach/1.2-definir-le-pilotage-de-la-demarche-bilan-carbone-r.md) of the Bilan Carbone® approach presented previously.

The preparation of deliverables is the responsibility of the Bilan Carbone® coordinator, supported by the project team.

The validation of deliverables depends on the maturity level of the organisation (either by the person in charge of coordination, or by management).

## Stakeholder engagement relating to Reporting

A stakeholder engagement action takes place during step 6. It aims at fostering accountability, reporting and communication around the results and the [finalisation of the approach](/english/3-stakeholder-engagement/3.1-programmer-les-phases-de-mobilisation/3.1.5-en-synthese-de-la-demarche.md). It is part of the stakeholder engagement phases programming presented previously.

## Requirements relating to Reporting

As a **reminder**, here is the [summary of requirements](/english/1-scoping-the-approach/1.1-definir-son-niveau-de-maturite-bilan-carbone-r.md#comparatif-des-criteres-des-niveaux-de-maturite-pour-lamelioration-continue-du-bilan-carbone-r) and recommendations, for each of the maturity levels. These criteria are explained in detail in the following sub-sections.
